Fabrication 5 and 8: make your own Power Cells, Galvanic Wire Spools and a second Mining tool, the Loadsteel Cutter, then a Freight Harness for six more Inventory slots. Tansy and Renn both have a job about that Cutter.
The Fabrication Station has more on it now, and your Fabrication level is the only thing that opens it. Reach Fabrication 5 and four new recipes appear; reach Fabrication 8 and a fifth does. They work Galvanic Stock and Galvaferrite, but you do not need any Refining of your own to use them — stock you bought or were handed works exactly as well.
At Fabrication 5 you can turn one Galvanic Stock into two Scrap Metal, a Galvanic Wire Spool, or two Power Cells. The Cells come off the machine charged and ready — one batch is always two, so the tile says two however many batches you choose, and four batches make eight.
The fourth Fabrication 5 recipe is the Loadsteel Cutter: two Galvaferrite, a Wire Spool and a Power Cell. It is a second Mining tool rather than a better Salvage Cutter, and it needs Mining 5 to equip. It is faster whether or not it is charged, a Power Cell still speeds it up on top of that, and while it is charged a success can give one more ore than usual. One Cell is still ten charged attempts, and a new one comes off the machine empty.
Fabrication 8 adds the Freight Harness, a heavy container that fits either container attachment and adds six Inventory slots. It weighs 9 kg, and that weight is carried like any other gear.
Everything new can be taken apart by Tinkering on the same terms as before. Power Cells go two at a time, and Tinkering still will not take your last usable Mining Cutter, whichever kind it is.
Once Brace Yourself is behind you, Tansy has one more lesson at The Jag when you reach Fabrication 5: build a Loadsteel Cutter yourself and show her. Renn Calder, meanwhile, has been saving for one. Bring him any Loadsteel Cutter and he will pay for it.

Changed
- Loading a Power Cell, Cutter charge, and Mining timing now follow whichever Mining Cutter you have equipped.
- Selecting a piece of gear in your Inventory shows what it does, such as the slots a container adds or the Mining level a Cutter needs.
- Swapping one Mining Cutter for another stops a Mining run; start again to mine with the new one.
